We receive questions about this topic more and more- Technology Swamping (def.)- Becoming a slave to maintaining an overwhelming Social Networking life.
Drew, I'm terrified at being swamped by Facebook. I've held off until yesterday my wife browbeat me into it. I still have no idea why.

I got on Twitter a couple of months
ago and was so besotten with inane "tweets"
that I ran for cover. My iPhone keeps me
in touch more than I want to be.

Thanks for your email Hank-
I have been where you are, and it can be terrifying!
I think what has happened is that with the Social Networking technology, we are so excited to do these things because we can- not because we should!
My experience was this: I had all those services on my phone (a blackberry pearl), was fully connected and made a conscious decision to take many of the applications off.
It can be such a distraction from the things that are a priority and profitable, that now I do bulk processing on my computer, on my schedule. I have focused my energy and effort on people and become intentional about what is important and how I use my time.
I approve friend requests from facebook all at once- sometimes 10 or 20 at a time. (Notice I am being contacted, not spending hours searching myself). I turned off most of the alerts from facebook and eliminated twitter. My goal is to feel less busy doing garbage and focus my energy on intentionally marketing- so I have all the time I need to do things that I want, when I want to them, not because my phone asked for my attention. After a while you can feel like your own answering service!
